About Pregnancy Physio

Throughout pregnancy, it is very common to struggle with musculoskeletal issues such as back pain, pelvic pain, or even dysfunctions such as incontinence. Pregnancy physio is a specialised physiotherapy assessment that can help to identify how to alleviate or reduce any of the musculoskeletal symptoms experienced during pregnancy.

Our specialist women’s health physiotherapists can teach you useful and effective exercises to help reduce any pain or discomfort you experience, provide manual therapy for pain relief, whilst also providing you with useful advice on how to prevent issues from getting worse. At Bump to Beyond we understand that every pregnancy is different, so we make an effort to provide bespoke advice for each pregnancy physiotherapy session.

How Does Pregnancy Physiotherapy Help?

By utilising the knowledge of our specialist women’s health physiotherapists, and applying key pregnancy physio techniques, we are able to support women with various musculoskeletal issues experienced at all stages of pregnancy. We understand that one woman’’s pregnancy can different hugely to another woman’s pregnancy, therefore we offer pregnancy physio for a number of issues.
Pelvic Girdle Pain
Pregnancy physiotherapy can help with issues such as pelvic girdle pain. Our specialist physiotherapists will assess your current lifestyle to determine any risk factors that are contributing to the pain, before providing advice, specific exercises, advice on support belts, support belts and muscle strengthening activities to help relieve some of your pain.
Incontinence is a very common issue for women, and can result in leakage of urine after coughing, sneezing or participating in sport, and can often leave them feeling embarrassed. At Bump to Beyond, our pregnancy physio service can provide you with peace of mind as to what is normal and what requires additional treatment through our personalised pelvic floor programme.
Back pain is also a common symptom at all stages of pregnancy, however that does not mean that it should be ignored and tolerated. At Bump to Beyond we provide a full assessment of your pain, give advice, teach you exercises and give you hands on treatment to help alleviate and prevent further pain.
What To Expect

What to Expect From Your Pregnancy Physio Appointment

When attending your first pregnancy physiotherapy appointment at Bump to Beyond it is helpful to consider your clothing choices. Inevitably, with a pregnancy physio appointment, assessments and treatments will be given to different areas of your body, therefore wearing clothes that can be easily removed or manoeuvred to reveal particular areas of your body would be useful. However, if you are not comfortable with revealing certain areas of your body, communicate this to our specialist physiotherapists and they will try to find an alternative treatment method if possible.

If you are attending the clinic for pelvic floor dysfunction, it may be appropriate to conduct a pelvic floor examination, which is why wearing clothes that can be easily removed is a good idea. Again, if you do not feel comfortable with having this area of your body assessed then our physiotherapists will do what they can to accommodate your needs.

As part of the pregnancy physio appointment, you will also be asked to take part in a series of movements and exercises so that our physiotherapists can assess the level of your dysfunction and pain. Whilst this is an important part of your assessment, be sure to let us know if anything is too strenuous or painful.
